About the Artist
In 1949 I was born into a family who didn’t let the dust settle much under their feet, we moved often. Never adjusting well, I found being around nature in dense forests, wading in lakes, or catching crawdads in creek beds was more to my liking. Hunting and fishing was a major part of my childhood. I was always captured by hunting and fishing stories told by my father, uncles and cousins.
Deer trails behind our home became a raceway to neighborhood children and I. Old growth had fallen to become home to squirrels and other little critters we’d try to catch. Each move my family made I always found nature to be more comforting.
After graduating from school I soon started working and found little time for exhibiting my art.
Commission work was best suited for me at the time.
During the 70’s I had a unique experience of having one of my paintings critiqued by William Yelland, of Yelland Galleries in California. Mr. Yelland, as well as being an artist himself and an art appraiser was a restorer of master paintings for the Vatican. His special encouragement inspired me to pursue my painting with new energy.
While living in Gresham, Oregon for 20 years my mentor and friend was the late western artist Ted Haines. Ted persuaded me to show my art in galleries and exhibit in shows.
My travels have taken me to the Northern wilderness of Alaska to grand parks of Southern states and sandy beaches of Hawaii with my camera in hand.
My interests are varied but more than anything I’ve enjoyed riding horses out into primitive areas observing nature.
During those early years I spent some summers camping in the basin of the Little Blitzen Gorge in the Steens Mountains of Southern Oregon with a family who took me “under their wing” you might say while my parents moved once again to another job site.
I credit this family and their faith for bringing me to know the Lord and becoming a Christian. I am truly humbled for the gift “He” has given me.
Enjoy my site and come again soon.
